This week I visited the exhibition at the Barbican: ‘Future Beauty, 30 years of Japanese Fashion’ which talked about the influence and rise of Japanese designers such as Yohji Yamamoto, Rei Kawakubo and Issey Miyake. I was most inspired from a fashion promotion point of view by the images of Issey Miyake clothes by Irving Penn, which he produced a whole book of. They also had copies of Rei Kawakubo’s magazine for Comme Des Garcons called Six. The magazine was intended to encapsulate the spirit of the brand and show Kawakubo’s inspirations and influences, these were often non-fashion related works by photographers and artists.
